The history of the vineyard is not unlike a long quiet river.It reached its apogee in the height of the 19 th century : the golden century when its areas spanned nearly 45.000 hectares of 1200 today nowadays.
The tragic decline of wine worldwide is attributed to the combined effect to the phylloxera and the mildew which brought the vineyard to near extinction.

Mens in throes of their passion

Claude Sauvat the founder of the vineyard  is a man of character. In the 70’s , he started from scratch and replanted the vine. The vineyard increased over the years and now covers 11hectares .
Annie, his daughter , who married Michel Blot joinedforces in 1987. Since then the Domaine SAUVAT continues to perfect its wines.
Implements such as a vat , a wine oak barrel storage house , tasting room , and ( a wine making  storage ) is a testimony to the qualitative efforts of Domaine Sauvat.
Michel Blot, in charge of wine making, emerged as a precursor of oak-aging and contributes to the success and reputation of  Domaine SAUVAT thanks to its famous Chardonnay vintage and Pinot Noir in oak barrels.
Since then Michel BLOT  wine-maker at the Domaine SAUVAT with his avant-garde flair created his own brand in winery his creativity bores atypical and original wines like the famous “ vin de paille “ ( paille meaning in fact grapes laying on beds of straw ) as well as the famous vintage : Granit deriving from  “ Gamay d’Auvergne “ quite a different style in itself .
